Drogba banned for three matches

Didier Drogba

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been banned for three matches after throwing a coin back to opposition supporters.

Drogba will miss three Premier League matches while suspended, against Newcastle, Arsenal and Bolton.

It all happened in a match between Chelsea and Burnley in the Carling Cup. Drogba had just scored, and celebrated his goal near the Burnley fans.

A coin was thrown from the crowd, and Drogba threw it back. Football bosses charged him with violent conduct.

Nobody was hurt when he threw the coin into the crowd, and he did say sorry for doing it.

The player isn't the only person to get in trouble though.

A Football Association spokesman said it was totally unacceptable for players to be put in danger by supporters throwing missiles onto the pitch and they're working with the police to find out who did it.

"The FA wants anyone found guilty of throwing missiles to face the strongest possible action," he said. "That includes life bans from attending football matches."

Back in 2002 Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was sent off in an FA Cup tie against Arsenal after he threw a coin back into the crowd. He got a three-match ban and was fined by his club.
